On 1 October, Associate Professor Marija Jakubauskienė started working as the director of the Institute of Health Sciences (IHS) at the Faculty of Medicine (MF) of Vilnius University (VU).
The decision regarding the new head of MF IHS was taken on the basis of Order No (1.13 E) 150000-TPN-40 of the dean of the Faculty of Medicine at the meeting of the MF Council on 10 September. The decision of the MF Council is available here.
Jakubauskienė is a VU MF researcher. Her research areas and interests include public health, epidemiology, public mental health, population health determinants and interventions, health innovation development, and healthcare services and systems research. Since 2020, Jakubauskienė has been the president of the Public Mental Health Section of the European Public Health Association (EUPHA) and member of the International Scientific Committee. She is also a research expert for the European Commission. For two terms, Jakubauskienė was a member and vice-chair of the Central Academic Ethics Commission of Vilnius University. She has earned a master’s degree in Business Administration Entrepreneurship and Innovation at the VU Business School and is an active participant and team leader in health innovation and deep tech incubation and acceleration programmes. She was voted the best lecturer at VU MF in 2023.

The Institute of Health Sciences at the Faculty of Medicine of Vilnius University is one of the four departments of the MF. The activities of the IHS are based on innovative ideas oriented to the development of health sciences in Lithuania and worldwide. The IHS brings together researchers and lecturers who work in the fields of public health, rehabilitation, sports medicine, nursing and midwifery, health ethics, and optometry and carries out research focusing on health sciences.
