Exchange Studies
The Faculty of Medicine is an active participant in international projects and programmes. You are therefore invited to participate in various exchange programmes. The ERASMUS+ programme is the most popular among students of our faculty. More information can be found here.
Students of the faculty have the opportunity to go to universities that are members of the ARQUS and Coimbra Group university networks. Exchanges with these universities are financed by the funds of the ERASMUS+ programme and take place in accordance with the rules, requirements and deadlines of the ERASMUS+ programme. More information can be found here.
Vilnius University has signed international bilateral agreements with universities in Australia, India, Canada, South Korea, and other countries, and also annually invites students to go to the USA and other countries through the ISEP programme, so you have excellent opportunities to study outside the European Union as well. You can find more information about the possibilities to study abroad through bilateral agreements here; more about the ISEP programme can be found here.
Erasmus+, ARQUS and COIMBRA Group students selection procedure can be found here.
The selection process is carried out in accordance with the rules for sending Vilnius University students to foreign research and study institutions for partial studies. Those rules were approved by order of the Vice-Rector of Studies of Vilnius University No R-277 on 8 May 2018.
!!! Before filling in the application, please look through the course list that Erasmus University offers and the language that will be taught. Knowledge of the local language at a level of B1–B2 is recommended when attending universities in Germany, Spain, Italy and France.
Regardless of which programme a student will be participating in, all subjects that the student plans to study abroad must be coordinated with the faculty's study exchange coordinator. This guarantees that the academic results brought home will be fully credited and integrated into the study programme at VU.
COMPETETIVE SCORE
ERASMUS+ COMPETITIVE SCORE (CS) calculation formula:
CS = 0.8*WGPA + 0.2*ME + AC.
WGPA - weighted grade point average of the last two semesters.
Bachelor‘s diploma supplement GPA (for first-semester master students) or first-semester GPA (for second-semester master students). It is recommended that master students have a GPA of no less than “7” (the compulsory requirement for master students is to submit a bachelor’s or other previous higher education diploma supplements). Applications of students with debt will not be considered.
ME - the assessment of the motivational essay (1-10 points).
- A clear and convincing demonstration of the candidate‘s expectations and aspirations in the exchange studies, highlighting the advantages that a candidate would not receive if they stayed at VU. Clear motives for choosing a particular host university (universities) and particular studies; knowledge of the study language.
- Demonstrating candidate traits (skills, experience, knowledge, etc.) that are not reflected in the GPA would help evaluate their readiness for studies abroad.
AC - additional criteria:
+0.5 for non-previous/current participation in exchange programmes;
-0,5 for a full-time medical student who has applied for one semester.
Priority is given to students who:
- Have higher average marks for the past two semesters (are counted only subjects taken at VU);
- Are in a higher course.
!! Additional information for applying for the spring semester: The spring semester is not recommended for second—and fifth-year medical students.
