ABOUT THE SPEAKER

Dr. Joscha Gretzinger is an archaeologist and population geneticist who studies human history and migration patterns through the analysis of ancient DNA. His notable research has provided new insights into the phenomenon of Anglo-Saxon migration, its scale and its impact on local communities. He is currently serving as a postdoctoral researcher at the Max Planck Institute for Evolutionary Anthropology in Leipzig, Germany, and focuses on the HistoGenes project, which aims to integrate genetic, archaeological and historical perspectives on Eastern Central Europe between 400 and 900 AD. For his contribution to this field, Dr. J. Gretzinger was awarded the prestigious Otto Hahn Medal by the Max Planck Society. Beyond his research, he is active on social media and describes himself as "an introvert, but willing to discuss dinosaurs".
