The Translational Health Research Institute at the Faculty of Medicine of Vilnius University has been authorised as an establishment for breeding and use of experimental animals. The Institute has obtained this status after a successful assessment process carried out by the Centralised Authorisation Division at the Department of Services of the State Food and Veterinary Service. Authorisations issued by this authority certify that the institute complies with all the legal requirements necessary to ensure the welfare of animals and legal operation.

Authorisations show that the Translational Health Research Institute adheres to the highest international standards governing the breeding, care and use of animals for scientific purposes. The institute is committed to the welfare and ethical and responsible use of animals in accordance with the principles recommended by the Federation of European Laboratory Animal Science Associations (FELASA). In order to minimise the impact on animals, the institute observes the principles of the 3Rs: replacement – to replace animals with suitable alternatives whenever possible, reduction – to reduce the number of animals used, and refinement – to refine procedures in order to minimise stress and discomfort in animals. These principles not only ensure compliance with legal requirements, but also guarantee the quality and reliability of research.

Researchers of the institute plan to conduct high-quality research to improve public health and develop new diagnostic methods, treatments and medical technologies. The new opportunities will open up closer cooperation prospects with international partners in strengthening Lithuania’s scientific position and reputation at a global level. It should be noted that Translational Health Research Institute can also conduct this type of research for external clients.

The Translational Health Research Institute is a division of the Faculty of Medicine at Vilnius University, located in the Medical Science Center at Žaliųjų ežerų g. 2, Vilnius.
