New Dean of the Faculty of Medicine is elected. Congratulations to Prof. Dalius Jatužis!

On 27 September 2022 during the meeting of the Vilnius University Faculty of Medicine Council, two candidates - Prof. Vaiva Hendrixson and Prof. Dalius Jatužis - competed for the position of the Dean.

The meeting was attended by 24 members of the Council, who, according to Assoc. Arūnas Barkus, the chairman of the election commission, expressed their opinion during the meeting in a secret voting.

The votes of the Council members were distributed as follows:

Vaiva Hendrixson - 4 votes;
Dalius Jatužis - 20 votes.

The newly elected Dean will take up his duties from November 2022.

Description of the competition for the post of Dean of Faculty of Medicine of Vilnius University

We would like to remind the order of the election for the position of the Dean of the Faculty of Medicine of Vilnius University (VU). According to the provisions of the VU Statute and the regulations of the Faculty of Medicine, the dean of the faculty is elected from candidates nominated by the academic core units, other academic divisions, and self-nominated candidates. The successful candidate will be selected using a secret ballot of the Council of the Faculty of Medicine, and will then be appointed by the rector. Only someone who meets the requirements set by the VU Statute for the head of a core academic unit, can be appointed to the position of the dean of a faculty.

Nominations are invited from well-regarded individuals who hold a doctoral degree, have pedagogical and managerial experience, and on the first day of the term in office will not have reached the statutory age of retirement. Candidates for the position of dean, must demonstrate awareness of the VU mission and nurture its values. They should be motivated to ensure the quality of VU activities and have the knowledge, experience and abilities necessary to fulfil the duties of the dean. It is not essential that a candidate currently works at VU. This election is not open to anyone who has served two consecutive terms in the position of Dean of the Faculty of Medicine.

The dean will be elected during a closed meeting of the Council of the Faculty of Medicine. The Council will take a decision regarding the time and place of the meeting to elect the dean at a public Council meeting dedicated to introducing the candidates to both the Faculty community and the Council. A closed Council meeting for the election of the dean may take place on the same day or any other day after the public Council meeting dedicated to introducing the candidates to both the Faculty community and the Council.

The outcome of the election will be published on the faculty’s website https://www.mf.vu.lt no later than the next business day following the election.
