The prestigious St. Christopher Awards have been presented at the Vilnius Town Hall on the 25th of January. 10 most honorable residents, working in the different fields, were awarded with the most significant award of the city. Two members of the community of the Faculty of Medicine of Vilnius University - prof. Ligita Jančorienė and prof. Augustina Jankauskienė – were among them.

Prof. Ligita Jančorienė was awarded for her merits in the field of health care. As the head of the Infectious Diseases Center of Santara Clinics, she has focused all her professional knowledge on acute and chronic viral hepatitis, HIV infection, other viral infections, contagious diseases and their prevention, vaccination and travel medicine.

Prof. Augustina Jankauskienė was awarded for glorifying the name of Vilnius in the medical community all over the world. Her work led to a number of international conferences coming to the capital. Vilnius won the right to organize the annual conference of the European Association of Child Nephrologists in 2023, which will bring together over 600 experts and scientists in the field.

“I have to admit that this award is very precious to me. I was born in Vilnius, I studied and I have worked here. My children live and my grandkids grow here, in Vilnius. I really respect and love this city. It seems to me that an opportunity for me as a scientist to glorify the name of Vilnius allows me to extend and make sense of Gediminas’ dream,” said A. Jankauskienė.

St. The Christopher Awards have been awarded since 1998. Nominations for merits in science, law enforcement, education, culture and art, Vilnius historical memory, sports, business, tourism development, charity, architecture are offered by Vilnius residents.
